About

I want to become a social carer as I have seen in both my work as a psychologist and a support worker the impact a social carer can have for so many clients in their role as a support whilst also promoting independence. I think my experience in both of my roles not only gives me great theoretical and practical understanding of lots various mental health and intellectual conditions across the lifespan, but also makes me appreciate the importance of a strength-based approach to social care. I know the importance of fun and autonomy when working in this kind of role and I know I am able to deliver compassionate and empowering care. I love trail running and surfing, as well as playing music! I love including outdoor activities and music in my support work, as well as cooking and everyday life skills individual to my client's needs. I am passionate about psychology in general and the way we learn about different disorders and work with them being something that is with a strength-based focus. I am a provisional psychologist who works with both adults and children across a variety of intellectual and mental health disorders across two clinics. I am currently completing my Masters in Clinical Psychology. I have three years of support work experience, working primarily with adults with Level 3 ASD and other intellectual disabilities. Many of my clients in this work also had co-morbid speech impediments and mental health conditions. I also have three years of experience working in early-intervention behavioural therapy with children with Level 3 ASD. This role gave me lots of skills in teaching language development, working with families to ensure best care as a unit, and compassionate behavioural management.
