Growing up as the oldest in a large family with many younger family members having mental disabilities, I learnt at a young age the importance of leading with compassion to support people with disabilities to live their most joyful and fulfilled lives. This brought me to my current job where I have been working in a group home as a key worker DSP for over 2 years now. During these years, I have not only gained skills in providing person centred active support to those I support, but I now have hands on experience in administering medication, booking and attending appointments, supporting my members to learn new skills and stand up for themselves, and standing up for my members when they are unable. Building rapport is extremely important to my practice with those I support, and I always love to foster a strong relationship with the members I work with. The members I am currently working with for instance have become like family to me. I am motivated to grow my capacity to aid those around me and I believe that this industry is fundamental for me achieving that.^& ^&Sharing my hobbies with others is in itself a passion of mine! I would particularly love to draw with a member of the community. Art is one of my skills and drawing is my chosen medium. I would love to practice this with a member of the community for their enjoyment and the ability for art to work as an outlet for creative outlet for self-expression - something I believe is fundamental for everyone. I would share this by ensuring we have all the equipment necessary for them to enjoy the experience, and then we would go from there!^&
