About

I have always been a deeply empathetic and compassionate person. I have been working in a range of carer roles for over 10 years and truly love working individually with people. My desire to provide care to a diverse range of people led me to move to Guatemala at age 18 and live in a rural community as an English Teacher before working with an international NGO as a program coordinator. Upon returning to Australia I decided to pursue my Bachelor of Marine Science while studying I continued to work in carer roles in childcare and then individual disability support since January 2022. I have so deeply enjoyed building personal relationships with clients and feel honored to assist people to live more autonomously. I have a strong desire to get to know clients and attune to their unique interests and goals, I truly enjoy participating in clients' lives and organizing activities for clients. I love spending time outdoors, whenever I have the opportunity I love to go camping and hiking. I have on several occasions spent months at a time hiking several thousands of kilometers (most recently in 2022 I hiked 5000km from Canada to Mexico). Spending time outside brings me so much joy and I love sharing this with others. I have really enjoyed assisting clients in spending time outdoors, this has looked very different depending on individuals' different abilities. I assisted a client with severe vision impairment to go on weekly nature walks, I would drive us to different parks or nature reserves and the client would hold my arm while we walked, I would describe to her the plants around us and be her eyes. For another client requiring pyschosocial support we have found that long walks have been very soothing so I have been accompanying him on weekly hikes, we enjoy spending hours at a time walking together and easily finding conversation, this has been very beneficial for his mental health.
