We founded Like Family to connect people in need with locals who care. Since 2016, we’ve provided over 1 million hours of social support and helped thousands of Australians to achieve greater independence and build relationships that will last a lifetime.

None of this would have been possible without you, our Social Carers, who go above and beyond to help our Members to achieve their goals.

We will be increasing your pay rate from 1 September 2023 to recognise the:

  • Fair Work Commission's recent 15% award wage increase
  • Superannuation Guarantee increase
  • inclusion of 10 paid days of family and domestic violence per 12 months
  • new NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits

Although our Social Carers are independent contractors and not employees, we still consider superannuation and leave entitlements as part of your hourly rate. We want to ensure we continue to pay you fairly and competitively for the valuable work you do.

Rest assured that our Members who have a NDIS plan or Home Care Package have benefited from an increase in funding on 1 July 2023 to cover the award wage increase.

What's staying the same?

We want to ensure our Social Carers are compensated fairly, while enabling as many Australians as possible to access quality, affordable social support. That means:

  • Paying our Social Carers an hourly rate above the industry average
  • Keeping our rates below the NDIS price limits for social supports, so our Members can get more out of their funding
  • Continuing to charge flat hourly rates, so you don’t need to negotiate prices with your Members

What’s changing?

Our new pricing will come into effect on 1 September 2023. We’re committed to maintaining these prices for 12 months.

Bookings that take place up until this date will be paid at the current rates.

Here are the new Social Carer rates for 1:1 support, 1:2 and 1:3 support, sleepover support and transport.

1:1 support

This refers to support involving 1 Member and 1 Social Carer.

Group bookings

Group bookings are a great way to help Members meet new people, while paying you a higher hourly rate.

1:2 bookings involve 1 Social Carer and 2 Members

Sleepover support

This is a 10 hour booking, made up of 8 hours uninterrupted sleep plus 2 hours of active care. You can schedule additional support before or after the sleepover at the hourly rate of that day.

Transport costs

If you use your own car to take a Member somewhere during a booking, you will still be able to claim $0.90 per kilometre (the Member rate also has not changed).

Please remember to log how many kilometres you travelled when you complete a booking.

The difference between our Member and Social Carer hourly rates

We want to be as transparent as possible about our pricing. You can view changes to our Member rates here.

The difference between our Member and Social Carer rates is used to cover:

  • Our staff. We help with things like invoicing to make it easier for you to find work and provide support.
  • Insurance. We have Public Liability and Group Personal Accident Insurance in place to give you peace of mind during bookings.
  • Payment processing and operating costs. This includes the cost to process credit card transactions, which cannot be covered by our Members’ funding.
