I enjoy understanding peoples' journeys and helping to make their daily lives lighter, more engaging and most importantly, enjoyable. I'm half way between an introvert and extrovert, which makes a good combination for connecting with people who are experiencing anxieties about connecting with a new carer. I hold a psychology degree and am currently completing a PhD (also in psychology), and throughout this six years of training I've looked at many different aspects and approaches to mental health and well being. Overall, I'm friendly, approachable, and non-judgemental, and while I can't pretend to completely understand another person's difficulties, I enjoy offering empathy and compassion and working with their strengths to help them enjoy their day.^& ^&I enjoy being outdoors - particularly mindful walking in local parks/reserves. This is great for spending time in nature and is also very conducive to meaningful conversations, particularly if the other person has conversational anxiety or distress. If weather is not permitting, this can certainly be done indoors - such as at shopping centres or cafes - which I'd gladly do with a member of the community. I also enjoy watching (and talking about sport) - particularly AFL and cricket - and this offers a great point of connection for many members of the community. Similarly, I enjoy watching documentaries, comedy shows, and movies, which are also great ways to connect with someone else and learn something along the way.^&
