As a fourth-year student studying a Bachelor of Social Work and Arts at the University of New South Wales, I fundamentally believe that every individual deserves equitable opportunities to reach their potential. I am passionate about human interaction, and have ample experience working with people- in customer service, administration, babysitting, volunteering, and my recent placement at Westmead Hospital. Working with diverse patients on the Cancer and Complex Care team was a truly fulfilling experience, which solidified my University learning and my love for building meaningful connections with people. A Social Carer position will allow me to fulfil my passion of supporting those vulnerable through compassion and care. It will also allow me to apply my tertiary education and industry skills. ^& ^&I will share my counselling skills with someone in the community by conveying warmth and empathy through active listening, asking focusing questions, maintaining eye contact and utilising minimal encourages. For example, if someone is requiring of companionship and is sharing their traumatic experiences of an injury, I will validate and normalise their feelings, acknowledge their resilience and ultimately, create a non-judgemental, safe space for them to explore their thoughts. This will allow for the building of rapport and trust, which is the foundation to a positive relationship.^&
