COVID-19 safety for Social Carers
Although lockdowns may be over, COVID-19 is still very much present in the community. That means it's important to continue following COVID-19 best practices to keep you and your Members healthy and safe.
Here are some tips to keep in mind during face-to-face bookings.
Get your COVID-19 booster shot
One of the most effective ways to prevent COVID-19 transmission and severe illness is to keep up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations.
If you're due for your 3rd or 4th shot, don't hesitate to book an appointment!
Wear a suitable face mask
Although it is no longer mandatory to wear a face mask during bookings, you should always ask your Member if they would like you to wear one, particularly during a Meet and Greet.
You should also consider wearing one in high-risk places, like shopping centres, aged care facilities, and on public transport.
Mask safety tips
- Wear a high-quality mask, like an N95 or P2, which offer better protection against airborne or aerosol transmission
- Make sure the mask covers your mouth, nose and chin with no gaps
- When you put on or take off your mask, it is important that you wash your hands first and avoid touching your face. After each use, dispose of it safely.
Putting a mask on
- Clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Hold the mask by its tapes or loops, then tie the mask around your head or put the loops around your ears.
- Make sure the mask covers your mouth and nose, and that there are no gaps between your face and the mask, and press the nose piece around your nose.
- Do not touch the front of the mask while wearing it
Taking a mask off
- Clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Take the mask off from behind your head by pulling the tapes or loops straight forward and moving the mask away from your face.
- Throw the mask in the bin.
- Clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
Practise social distancing
Where possible, try to keep 1.5 metres away from other people at all times. For example, if you're providing transport as part of a booking, ask your Member to sit in the back seat of your car.
You should also avoid physical contact, like hugging or shaking hands.
Practise good hygiene
Even without COVID-19, it's always important to practise good hygiene to keep yourself and others safe. This includes:
- Regularly washing your hands with soap for at least 30 seconds
- Wearing disposable gloves when cleaning or cooking
- Disinfecting areas before and after a booking
- Applying hand sanitiser regularly
